Dr. Brendan Fitzsimmons accepted his role as President of Groh Enterprises in early 2021. While he has been involved with the company for over 25 years, his interest in the stock market led him to join Ferris, Baker Watts – now RBC Wealth Management – in 1999. He closed that chapter so he could continue the Groh legacy left by his father-in-law. Brendan believes in giving back to the community and has served as president of the Maryland Symphony Orchestra and the Washington County Historical Society. He has also served on the boards of the Washington County Free Library and the Washington County Arts Council and is currently a member of the board of trustees of Meritus Medical Center.
Brendan attended Swarthmore College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and history. From there, he completed graduate school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he received a Master of Arts degree in Historical Musicology. He also holds a Ph.D. in Business Management, with a specialty in Finance from Capella University. In 2010, Brendan was designated an Accredited Wealth Manager from Michigan State University.
Brendan and his wife, Katie, reside in Williamsport with their two children. He is an avid reader who has been known to disappear into a book for days and enjoys spending time with his family of ski enthusiasts. Several years ago, he began coaching his son’s lacrosse team and has become a huge fan of the sport. Brendan is also a certified swim official with both USA Swimming and the National Federation of High Schools. He and his wife are also heavily involved with the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts, which is located in downtown Hagerstown.
